Iceman - 2008

Rick “Iceman” Gould

Rest in Peace

2008

Iceman was a founding member of the Rotten Dead MC. He lived in Korea for a number of years with his wife and his adopted daughter both as a member of the United States Army and as a civilian.

At the end of 2007, he made the decision to return to the United States. He shipped his houshold items, including his beloved Suzuki Intruder, home in December 2007. Upon arrival in the states he was counting the days until his bike arrived.

Finally, his bike arrived. On the day it came, he hooked up the battery, hooked up the fuel line, dropped some gas in the tank and fired it up and took off down the road to fill the “Truder” up with gas. On the way to a gas station, an oncoming cager turned left across his path.

Iceman was killed.

Iceman was a devoted husband and father. He was also a Brother in the fullest sense of the word. He loved his bike, he loved his Club Brothers, and he loved his Club. He served as the Club’s first Sgt-at-Arms.

The Rotten Dead MC’s motto is “Brotherhood survives beyond the grave.” Iceman was our Brother in life, and he will be our Brother forever.

You will be missed, Brother Iceman.

Rotten Dead Forever! Forever Rotten Dead!

Rick has a special place near my heart. I didn’t many many memories, but the ones I had were vivid indeed. I remember Rick as Soldier, but mostly as friend. I remember when Rick had the accident that landed him in the hospital in Daegu. I stayed by Rick’s side for three days. We talked about things like “Why was I spared” Rick told me… “The accident I had should have killed me but it didn’t” He ask me it was sign that he needed to prioritize his life and be a better person. I saw Rick change after that time and he began being a better husband and father. I”ll nver forget Super Bowl XL when Rick and I watched Pisttsburgh beat Seattle. I enjoyed the special traditional foods that Rick prepared and we ate. We enjoyed a bottle of Crown during that game that really made it an awesome game as it was snowing outside. I really hate this for Stacey. I thing she is wonderful woman who loved Rick dearly. I hope she can find peace again in her life. If she is back in Busan I would love to talk to her and share with her how Im feeling. Stacey please call me 010-9214-1966, we had such great times I hope you are doing well. I’ll never forget my last conversation with RIck and I hate it that i didn’t make to his house for that cookout we talked about and then he moved to the states. Rick I miss you and take care buddy.

I met Rick & Stacy on Live Video, I loved his videos he was fun & always out having a great time no matter how bad the situation was. I remember sending a private video to him & Stacy to tell them how much I enjoyed watching them and how I rigged up the laptop to the TV so I could watch them on the big screen. He was always warm & friendly and ready to defend me when I had problems with haters on the net, but respected me when I said I was able to handle them myself. I am traveling around the world and we had even discussed all meeting one day to chew the fat. My heart goes out to Stacy and his friends at Rotten Dead, he will never be forgotten and although we never met I still feel I have lost a valued friend.

Goshed…how about Shocker. Well, today is Wednesday the 27th August 2008, and to tell everyone the truth that a lot of us didn’t know that SFC Gould (Rick) passed away months ago. Let me tell you the type of Army guy he was, cause you know him as Iceman, but I new him as SFC Gould or Rick to friends. This guy was my sponsor that help answer questions for me and my family before we arrived in South Korea (Daegu) in the Summer of July 2005. Rick, always kept in contact with me while I was stateside, and if anyone knows hat is a tough job and with the time difference, but Rick really tookcare of us and treated us really nice as if we were his family arriving in Korea. Rick was a guy that had a great sense of humor and could make you laughed when you were down. And always would turn a bad mood into a better one that madeyou forget any bad feelings. He was a professional soldier that went the distance and took the time out to help others in need. I knew Rick for a long time and others in our unit, it was just sad to hear about it now, after all this time that went by without any of us knowing.

    Good bye my friend
Our Condolences to Stacie and his family

I’ve been thinking about Rick a lot lately while I’ve been riding but I hadn’t written down my thoughts until now. A person I’ve never met left a comment on one of the most popular Bulletin Boards in Korea. This person was one of Iceman’s many online friends and took the time to announce that Iceman had passed to the public at large, thanking him for the time and effort Rick had made talking to him about the virtues of biking and trying to get him on the road. Seeing that, I decided it was time to write my thoughts down in loving memory of our first Sgt-at-Arms, Iceman.

    This is what I wrote:

    Dear Soujourner1,

I didn’t notice this thread until now, but I appreciate the kind words you left about our Brother Rick. As you stated, he was one of the founding members of the Rotten Dead MC, a loyal friend, an amazingly fun person to be around, and one of the most generous people I’ve ever met.

Rick was a very popular draw at Livevideo.com and after his death there was a touching show of support for his memory, his family, and the MC from the hundreds of friends he had made over the years. You appeared to have been one of his online acquaintances as well so you know that he always found the time to share his experience and stories with others, and in turn was a great listener.

I live in Seoul and Rick lived in Pusan where the RDMC’s HQ is. As a result we didn’t get to see each other as often as we would have liked. I remember on one occasion he and the Pusan Brothers made the 9 hour drive up to Dongducheon. That day Rick was running on 2 or 3 hours sleep before the ride and was absolutely exhausted when he arrived. He checked into his hotel at about 11 PM and passed out into a deep sleep while the party hosted by the American Steel MC was just getting started. However, when I arrived from the other direction just a bit after midnight he sprang out of bed and passed the night talking shop and going shot for shot with me and the others simply “That’s what brothers do.”

Because of his self-sacrifice I knew I could depend on him to help in anyway and for anything. He loved his motorcycle, the freedom of the ride, and the sense of brotherhood we all felt together.

Anyone who loves riding knows that it’s painful to be off your bike for any extended period of time. I know how tough it was waiting for his ‘Truder to arrive off the ship from Korea. I know the excitement he must have felt while polishing off the new paint job and pipes he had just added to make his bike more beautiful than ever. I’m sure he was (like Serge Gainsbourg sang about) transported off the earth when he straddled the bike and hit the starter button for the first time in months. He must have felt like a kid opening his presents on Christmas morning on the upgraded bike’s maiden voyage to the gas station that day… Because of a terrible accident Rick lost his life, but as you surmised, he couldn’t have left this world with a purer feeling of joy in his heart. We all miss him dearly.

Thanks again for your words. It’d be a pleasure to meet you.

    Yours,

    Heretic

Iceman. I had nothing but good times with you and our brotherhood will survive beyond the grave, brother. I miss you.
